Second Parthic Legion’s Museum

The museum's premises occupy an important area in the baths that Emperor Caracalla built for the Legion's soldiers

The museum’s premises occupy an important area in the baths that Emperor Caracalla built for the Legion’s soldiers. We are in a highly suggestive area where history blends with the environment used for the exhibition. Visiting the museum gives an opportunity to understand and examine closer several aspects of the Legion, which played an important role as the emperor’s personal guard. This Legion was made up of the bravest and most loyal soldiers. On display you can see the equipment and garbs resulting from an experimental archaeology reconstruction (such as the figure of Praefectus Legionis who during the empire of Septimius Severus reported directly to the emperor); findings such as the altar of Cassius Severus or a bronze parade shin guard; architectural elements like a marble frame; daily items such as amphorae to store wine and oil, dice and coins. The Museo della Seconda Legione Partica is part of Albano’s public museum network. You can find times and entrance fees on their internet site (www.museicivicialbano.it)
