Along the southern part of the Francigena Way Camino

It was here that the ancient Via Francigena passed, in the stretch that from Rome descended towards Brindisi to lead to Jerusalem, crossing beautiful villages, green woods and magnificent lakes. The path of the ancient pilgrims is now well marked in the direction of Rome: starting from Velletri, you meet the lake and the village of Nemi, the Via Sacra, Lake Albano and Castel Gandolfo, then continuing to Rome along the Appia Antica. From Velletri (which is served by the railway) to Rome, it takes two days with an overnight stay in Castel Gandolfo. Alternatively you can opt for just the 10 km stretch between Nemi and Castel Gandolfo, which is very beautiful and can be covered in 3 hours.
