Frascati

St. Maria in Vivario’s Church

It is also known as the Church of San Rocco. The church was the first cathedral of Frascati, which rose on the plant nursery (in Latin vivarum) of an ancient villa.

It is worth noting the bell tower decorated with multi-coloured tiles.
The inside has three naves divided by stone columns decorated with marble capitals.
The apse and the triumphal arch display splendid frescoes from the late 5th century, among which is one that portrays St. Sebastian and St. Rocco. The church conserves some sarcophagus and Roman ruins as well as an interesting crypt. It is open to the public.
In the square, in front of the church, you can admire an octagonal fountain donated by Cardinal d’Estouteville in 1480.
