Today, among the ruins you can still imagine where the stairs, the rooms, the sculptured seats and the bell tower used to be.
The hermitage probably dates back to pre-Christian times as gathering from the stonework similar to that used in Etruscan places of worship. It was later rebuilt in the 13th century by Cardinal Giacomo Savelli (Pope Honorius IV) and then, after becoming a hiding place for bandits, was destroyed in 1773 by Cardinal Antonio Colonna.
