Monte Porzio Catone

Astronomic Observatory

The Astronomic Observatory was designed in 1939 following a donation of a Schmidt telescope by Hitler, and was only completed in 1963 due to delays and conflicts during the Second World War.

The complex was built over the remains of an ancient Roman villa and was later entrusted to the Monte Mario Observatory in Rome. Today you can still see the terracing of the ancient villa.

The observatory features theย Astrolab, an interactive astronomic laboratory for educational purposes and a Museum of Astronomy is also expected to be set up.
