The tour departs from the heart of Rome, at Porta Capena, where the Appian Way once began. From there, we’ll follow the “Regina Viarum”—with its uneven cobblestones steeped in history—along the EuroVelo 7 cycling route. We’ll arrive at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella and then continue toward Castelli Romani, admiring Villa Dei Quintili, Santa Maria Nova, and other sites along the way. We’ll climb gently toward Albano Laziale through the Roman countryside before discovering the ancient ruins of Albalonga, with its Diocesan Museum and the Cisternone. Continuing along the ancient route, we will reach the Tomb of the Horatii and Curiatii. Crossing the “Valle Aricia”, we will climb up through the historic center to admire the imposing Palazzo Chigi and the wonderful Locanda Martorelli. These places have welcomed travelers from all over Europe; thanks to them, today we can relive the spirit and charm of the “Grand Tour.” In Ariccia, we’ll stop for a splendid tasting of the famous Porchetta paired with a nice glass of wine. We’ll continue on to Castel Gandolfo, the picturesque village with its Papal Palace and its wonderful gardens. After completing the tour, we’ll head to the train station in Albano Laziale and return comfortably to Rome.
A tour of approximately 40 km with an intermediate difficulty level.
