The 19th century Park was built by the will of Duke Lorenzo Sforza Cesarini in honour of his wife Carolina Shirley.
The church, that was the first Cathedral of the town, stands on the highest point, dominating the entire residential area; starting point of the important Infiorata set out along Via Belardi.
It is also called the New Cathedral in contrast with Chiesa Santa Maria della Cima the old cathedral.
The church, with its adjoining convent of the Cappuccini monks, an important point of the trident roads, the so-called "delle Olmate", was built upon the request of Duke Giuliano Cesarini in order to host the Franciscan monks who were staying at a convent in the centre of Nemi, an inconvenient position and without running water
The second convent church of Genzano is located south of the town towards Velletri and Nemi
